Ideal conditions for Malaria

MALARIA continues to take lives and remains a major public health issue, said Health Minister Dr Richard Kamwi at a World Malaria Day commemorative event at Ruacana last Friday. From November last year to March this year more than 3500 case were reported and 135 people died of malaria.

Kamwi called on people to protect themselves against mosquito bites, by using insecticide-treated nets for example, and to inform themselves about malaria prevention and treatment. Kamwi said the recent flooding in the north of the country has created ideal conditions for the breeding of malaria-carrying mosquitoes. Malaria is a leading cause of death among children under five and expecting mothers.

Heavenly father
, we appreciate and acknowledge you as protector, healer and Saviour.
We realise that you sent your Son, Jesus Christ, into the world as a sign that you dwell among us and to forgive us of our sins. We remember all persons living with malaria and pray for their healing.

We pray for those who live in areas that are prone to this disease and that central government, local authorities and citizens will cooperate to make their environment safe.
We beseech you, Lord, to make us more conscious of the things that can be done to prevent the spread of malaria, and what to do when we have contracted it. We pray that health workers working in countries where malaria is prevalent are protected. And for those working to find a cure, protect people from the disease or ease the suffering of those who are ill, be with them we pray.

For those who live in fear of malaria, grant them stillness of the mind.
For the millions worldwide who suffer from this disease we pray for healing.

In Jesus Name

We Have A Vision

Make this well-known song by Chris Falson your prayer:

We have a vision for the Namibian nation

We share a dream for this land

We join with angels in celebration

By faith we speak revival in this land

CHORUS:

Where every knee shall bow and worship You

And every tongue confess that You are Lord

Give us an open heaven

Anoint our prayers this day

And move Your sovereign hand

Across this Namibian nation

Preparing the young

We were to leave for Opuwo 750 km to the north west of Namibia on Friday morning to teach a parenting seminar. Just as I was writing the prayer request, I received a message that the visit has been postponed. It seems that schools in that part of the northern Kunene Region are on a program of eccelerated exams. Schools will then close earlier to allow repairs of sanitation. Poor sanitation facilities can cause the outbreak of cholera. Teachers and parents are therefore not available for the parenting seminar at this time.

Please pray for children all over Namibia who are writing exams. Keep the flooded areas of the north in your prayers. Also pray for the people of Opuwo. There are many who love the Lord and who are eager to be equipped in their walk with Him. Pray that the the church will play a major role in preparing the young for a lifelong relationship with God.(Some of our friends from Opuwo seen on the photo above).

Remember his words!

The sign on the door of the Garden tomb just outside the old city of Jerusalem says it all.

He is not here;
He has risen!

On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ Then they remembered his words. Luke 24:1-8

Jesus said to her, "I am
the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies." John 11:25

With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all
. Acts 4:33

Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God - the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son, who as to his human nature was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God, by his
resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 1:1-4

Join us in prayer as we praise God for the words and deeds of Jesus Christ and the declaration of the Holy Spirit. Pray that we will also remember and proclaim the gospel with great power in this beautiful country and all over the world:
Jesus is the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Him will live, even though he dies.

Follow Jesus to the end!

As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus. Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him. Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb.

The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. Sir," they said, "we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’

So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first. Take a guard," Pilate answered. "Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.

So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting the guard.
Matthew 27:57 -66

FIRST-CENTURY BURIAL CUSTOMS

When someone died, his or her body was laid in the outer chamber of the tomb and prepared with various spices and perfumes. During this time, mourning ceremonies would take place. After the body had been carefully placed on one of the ledges around the chamber, the tomb was sealed with a large disc-shaped stone that rolled in a trench in front of the tomb. It remained closed until the family returned to collect the bones or to bury another family member. Jesus' tomb was sealed before the body was prepared (Matt. 27:57-66), and Jesus was raised before His friends returned to complete the burial (Matt. 28:1-6).

AN EXPENSIVE GIFT

Only the wealthy could afford large tombs cut into the rock. Their families were buried in these tombs for years (sometimes centuries). The tomb that Joseph of Arimathea provided for Jesus was such a tomb (Matt. 27:59-60; Luke 23:53; John 19:41). The stone was so large that the women were afraid they would not be able to open it (Mark 16:1-3). A stone of this size would be found on the tomb of a wealthy man. Source http://www.pottershouseschool.org

The story of Jesus does not end at his burial! Tomorrow we will recall what happend on the third day.

Pray that believers in Namibia and all over the world will follow and preach the life of Jesus to the very end.

The message of the cross

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing,
but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
1Corinthians 1:18

Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth
was a man accredited by God

to you by miracles, wonders and signs,
which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know.

This man was handed over to you by God’s set purpose

and fore knowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men,
put him to death by nailing him to the cross.

But God raised him from the dead,
freeing him from the agony of death,
because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.
Acts 2:21-24

Pray that the message of the cross
will be proclaimed in Namibia
and all over the world and that men and women
will call on the Name of the Lord and receive salvation.

Intercession is valuable

Our intercession is valuable, your prayers are powerful, and can bring a reversal to the judgment of God upon a people or nation. So, everything can yield to the voice of intercession. Everybody can be touched by a fervent prayer offered with honesty and with a pure heart.

Intercessors United Namibia
is inviting everyone, and you specially to participate in this 15th Annual Intercessors Conference scheduled for the 9th -13th April, 2009. The venue is at Concordia College, Windhoek.

The theme of the conference is Give me this mountain - a cry to God to grant us victory over obstacles and satanic hindrances! We start at 18h30 on the 9th of April 2009.

For more info call Goody Nwagboso = Intercessors United Namibia = Cell: 0811279311

Pray that God
will use this event to raise up and equip men and women to inter seed for Namibia and the world.
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil. 1Peter 3:12

DYNAMIC CHRISTIAN WOMEN

On Saturday, 4 April 2009 more that a 100 ladies attended a very practical event to be developed as leaders and be equipped to reach out to others. The following topics were addressed:

1. How to be a credible Christian

2. How to be a caring Christian

Crime in Namibia

The Namibian Newspaper reported that a seventh suspected member of a gang of armed robbers caught in a deadly shootout with the Police in Windhoek on Thursday (3 April 2009) was found hiding in the gambling house five hours after the Police had shot dead two members of the gang, wounded another two and arrested a further two suspects.

Here are issues we can pray for in regards to crime and crime prevention in Namibia:
  • Pray for the safety of our police.
  • Pray for our police officers to have wisdom and divine insight.
  • Pray for our police to get the information they need to get breakthroughs and arrests.
  • Pray that God will intervene in the lives of the criminals.
  • Pray against the main crimes being committed (Home burglaries, business burglaries, attacks on farmers, women and children).
  • Pray against drug related crimes (Especially at schools and night clubs).
  • Pray against crime syndicates (drugs, fraud, theft etc.).
  • Pray against the increase of crime over holiday seasons.
  • Pray and bind the spirit of violence and death in our country.
  • Pray for the victims of crime and their families.
  • Pray that evil and corruption in law-enforcement departments will be exposed at every level.
