NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER AGAINST VIOLENCE

President Hifikepunye Pohamba, in a special address to the nation on Friday night, declared 6 March as the National Day of Prayer against Violence.

He said too much pain and suffering have been caused, “The lives of too many women and girls have been destroyed or disrupted. Too much pain and suffering have been caused. The carnage must stop, and it must stop immediately.”  He called on various measures against gender-based violence.

The call for a day of prayer against violence has been questioned in the Editorial of a major newspaper. Click here God Save us from Who? for full details.

In reaction to the editorial here are some of the comments:

Congratulation to the President for calling a National Day of Prayer. If, anyone, we should first engage God. You can’t trust laws and other humans to bring peace in any situation. The President did the right thing. As human beings we shouldn’t forget that we didn’t create ourselves. Putting laws in place doesn’t prevent human beings from doing wrong. Just lures them into doing it in hope of not getting caught. You can’t modify the behavior of man. Only yielding to God, and walking in love can allow man to make the choice of shunning evil. Man can’t love without knowing love himself and love is God. So, again I say well done to the President this shall be remembered in the terms in which he served the nation. - Nashikoto Hetty Nangolo

Prayer can change the situation. Yes, we are mourning our daughters, sisters and mothers killed by men but i don't understand why we are blaming leaders so much, the killers are staying near us (in our houses, our friend and our sons we rise up). Lets join hands and fight crime. I support prayers. Father GOD can change the hearts of people. Let's pray for our nation everyday and council our fellow citizens when we identify them having difficulties before they commit such crimes. - Ndinelao N.

Will you join us in prayers for our Nation and against this evil amongst us. Pray for a change of heart resulting into holy conduct. Pray that God will comfort and protect those in pain. Use Scripture and pray as the Spirit leads.

  • The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? Jeremiah 17:9
  • And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men, for not everyone has faith. 2 Thessalonians 3:2
  • Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God––this is your spiritual act of worship. 2  Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is––his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:1 - 2
  • Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5
May we also remind you that Friday 7th of March is the Women World Day of Prayer. This also presents an opportunity to pray against violence in Namiba, Egypt (the focus country) and all over the world.

MENtality Shift

MENtality Shift! What a great theme for a conference for men.
  • Pray for all men attending this conference.
  • Pray for Holy Spirit anointed speakers
  • Believe God for men who will make the mental shift.
  • Trust God for men making brave choices.
  • Ask God for breakthroughs in the lives of men in Namibia.
Pray for men in Namibia -
  • having passionate love for Jesus above all else.
  • living in intimacy with our Lord.
  • walking in purity, integrity, honesty and humility.
  • continually being a light proclaiming Christ and making disciples.
  • knowing, resting and rejoicing in his identity ‘in Jesus.’ i.e. forgiven, new, loved, clean, blameless, washed, righteous, and spotless.
To the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.  Ecclesiastes 2:26

ONE CHURCH – MANY CONGREGATIONS

Pastors and Church Leaders are invited
to an evening of Worship,
Prayer and Fellowship in Windhoek
 on Monday 17 February 2014

When we think about a big city we would say there are many different churches in that city. But I don't think that is how God sees it. I believe God sees only one church.

I believe it is important that the leaders of congregations within a city or region know how to relate to one another. It's very easy to become self-centered - to think about "my church" or "our church" and to focus on that alone. But that is not a scriptural attitude. I believe we as leaders should see one another as co-elders in the same church.

Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Phil. 2:1-4

I think our broken relationships and lack of harmony cause God to stop up His ears in heaven.

In the Greek, "agree" is a musical word. It gives us the word "symphony". It speaks about harmony.

And Jesus says, If two of you can harmonize on earth about anything that they ask, it will be done for them.

Pray that:
  • There will be unity in the Church in Windhoek - that church leaders will look out for the interests of others.
  • Christian leaders will stand-up against selfish ambition, rivalry and competition in the Church.
  • Pastors will work on their relationships with other pastors - that they will have servant hearts full of love for one-another.
Trust that:
  • Pastors in the city will see God's Big Picture - His plan for the city.
  • The primary motive of every church leader and pastor in a city will be to please the Father.
  • Pastors will eagerly respond to this invitation to attend this evening of worship, prayer and fellowship.
  • Trust that harmony in the Church will build His Kingdom in Windhoek!
Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth
concerning anything that they ask,
it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.
For where two or three are gathered together in My name,
I am there in the midst of them.
Matt. 18:19-20
