ELECTIONS FREE AND FAIR!

The observer mission of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) has declared Namibia’s national and presidential elections free and fair, its leader, Mozambican Diplomatic Affairs Minister Francisco Madeira, said yesterday.
Generally, the pre-election phase was characterised by a peaceful, tolerant and yet enthusiastic political atmosphere, the SADC mission observed.

Although there were some incidents of violence reported in some parts of the country, the law enforcement agencies were able to deal with them effectively. “These acts of violence were roundly condemned by all the political leaders in the country,” Madeira said.

The SADC mission applauds the Namibian people for the manner in which they expressed their will and conducted themselves during the entire electoral process, thus contributing to the consolidation of democracy and political stability in Namibia, the SADC region and the African continent,” Madeira added.
