TRUSTING GOD FOR A DREAM

In 1998 a number of believers in Namibia felt that God
spoke to them through the Prophet Habakkuk about Namibia.

Over time The Namibian Dream was born:

We see a country in Africa where God's glory
is shining from East to West, from North to south,
filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD,
as the waters cover the sea.
(Hab 2:14; Isa 11:9)

We see a country in Africa
Which is a blessing to Africa.

We see Namibia!

Over the years, many Namibians have made this dream their own.

This week-end we looked back at what God has done
and gave Him all the honor and glory.
Join us as we continue trust God (the righteous will live by his faith Hab 2:4)
for what He has done and is doing in the country
and for the fulfillment of the Namibian Dream!

For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD,
as the waters cover the sea. Habakkuk 2:14

They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain,
for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD
as the waters cover the sea.  Isaiah 11:9

NAMIBIA CELEBRATES 24 YEARS

Tomorrow 21 March 2014 will mark Namibia’s 24th year of freedom.  Namibia has been a free country since 21 March 1990.

Estelle de Bruyn writes in the Republikein newspaper that political analysts agree on the fact that after independence Namibia for 24 years was without any significant conflict, surviving peacefully  and is a beacon of stability, not only measured by African standards, but to international standards - this is a compliment for the nation and the government.

Praise God for:

  • Namibia who is well respect as an independent nation in the international community.
  • 24 years of peace and political stability.
  • Democracy through regular peaceful elections.
  • Expanded services such as health care and more schools.
  • President Hifikepunye Pohamba who recently called the nation to prayer.
Trust God for:
  • Addressing the challenges of the education system and the high failure rate.
  • Actions to resolve family violence against women and children.
  • A stop to the downward spiral of morality that leads to an increase in crime.
  • Wisdom and creative plans to address poverty, unemployment and inequality.
  • Provision for many people who still do not have electricity and clean drinking water.
  • Namibia's economic growth rate to pick up above an average of four percent per year to reduce poverty.
  • Prosperity for all our peoples and for a spirit to help one-another.
  • Namibia to be a shining light in Africa of God's blessings - protection and provision.

WOMEN'S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER 2014

Women's World Day of Prayer is on Friday 7 March. It will be celebrated in over 170 countries!  Women’s World Day of Prayer is an international, inter-church organization which enables us to hear the voices of women from all parts of the world: their hopes, concerns and prayers.

The focus country of 2014 is Egypt and theme of this year is ‘Streams in the Desert’ and we are asked to reflect on our Christian role of being a ‘stream in the desert’ for those who experience spiritual ‘drought’. We believe that the service from Egypt has universal appeal. It also makes us aware of our own need and the supply of enough clean water every day.

In Namibia the Women’s World Day of Prayer is coordinated by Transformation Namibia, the Bible Society of Namibia and the CCN (Council of Churches in Namibia).  We are encouraging all churches, congregations and small groups across Namibia to get involved by arranging their own prayer meetings on this day. The “Women’s World Day of Prayer” supports the Bible Society of Namibia in their work to translate and distribute the Word of God to all Namibian people.  To do this offerings received on the day of prayer will go towards Bible distribution.

Through Women’s World Day of Prayer, women are encouraged:

  • to be enriched by the faith experience of other Christians
  • to become aware of the situation of women in other countries
  • to share their hopes fears, joys, sorrows, opportunities and needs and to pray with and for them
  • to turn their prayers into positive action
As we participate in the “Women’s World Day of Prayer” we are encouraged to learn about the lives of the women (from Egypt) who prepared the service.

Then ‘informed prayer’ should lead to ‘prayerful action’. First we pray … then we get up and help.

Issues for prayer for Egypt:

  • You could break into small groups for discussing issues before praying for these.
  • The suffering of women and children in a struggling economy
  • The needs of widows and education for girls
  • Those affected by recent political upheaval
  • The rights of all to worship in their chosen way
  • The end of attacks on Coptic Christians and church buildings
  • The wise use of water in this desert land
  • The witness of the minority Christians to the life-giving water Jesus offers
Issues for prayer for Namibia and your own area:
  • You could pray for Namibian issues and community issues.
  • The effects of droughts in parts of Namibia
  • The effects of floods in parts of Namibia
  • The working together of churches to present the living water of Jesus to Namibians
  • The plight of women in Namibia and violence against them.
  • The fair distribution of wealth in Namibia

Please trust the Lord that lives will be touched and changed. That believers will become true follows of Christ.

And He went up on the mountain
and called to Him those He Himself wanted.
And they came to Him.
Then He appointed twelve,
that they might be with Him
and that He might send them out to preach.

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER AGAINST VIOLENCE (More Prayer Requests)

For the background of this National Day of Prayer against Violence - please see the previous post.

Why pray?

Gender-based violence is prevalent in Namibia. It is estimated that one third of women have experienced physical or sexual abuse at the hands of an intimate partner. Furthermore, every year, more than 1100 cases of rape/attempted rape are reported to the Namibian Police, with one third of these cases occurring in children under the age of 18. ‘Hidden’ issues such as witchcraft are also prevalent in Namibia, although information on these issues is often difficult to obtain. Source:
Legal Assistance Centre LAC - (The LAC's main objective is to protect the human rights of all Namibians.)

Violence against women and girls takes many forms and is widespread throughout the globe...

... It includes rape, domestic violence, harassment at work, abuse in school, female genital mutilation and sexual violence in armed conflicts... I urge governments and partners around the world to harness the energy, ideas and leadership of young people to help us to end this pandemic of violence. One in every three women and girls is expected to face violence in some form in their lifetime (United Nations). It is a staggering statistic but, more than that, it is heart-breaking: it breaks the heart of our God who created and loves each and every one of us, whether male or female.

He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets prisoners free. Psalm 146:7

Prayer requests: Will you join us in prayers for our Nation and against this evil amongst us?
  • Trust God to bring about transformation in Namibia and a stop to Gender-base
  • Trust God for a change of heart resulting into holy conduct.
  • Government, churches, fathers and men to stand up and take a stand against this evil in society.
  • Women to be able to identify dangerous relationships and situations and run from it.
  • Protection of vulnerable women and girls from ongoing cycles of violence and trauma.
  • Families to form a circle of protection around their loved ones.
  • Strength to all those who work to protect others from violence.
  • Police and other protection services to be effective in their role to protect and apprehend.
  • Good governance so that perpetrators can be brought to justice.
  • The implementation of legislation enacted to protect survivors of Gender-based violence.
  • Safe spaces for survivors of sexual violence to take refuge.
  • Trauma counseling and treatment for HIV, desperately needed by survivors of sexual violence - to be available and accessible.
  • Comfort for families and those who have lost loved ones and struggle with that loss.
  • Churches to minister healing in body, mind or spirit to afflicted members.
  • God to comfort and protect those in pain and show believers how they can assist them in their need.
  • God to heal women and girls of the pain and suffering caused by sexual violence.
