Amos Namibia Agrimin is a Christian, multi-racial, inter-denominational, agricultural organisation, focussing on ministry and the empowerment of the agricultural community and the transformation of the agricultural community of South Africa and Africa. We have been called to serve.

Amos does not work alone but tries to involve other Kingdom partners (including Christian churches) to help train and develop the agricultural community. We have a strong prayer ministry among farmers in Namibia.

Abortion is not legal in Namibia. Figures of it's occurrence is not available. In neighboring South Africa the figure is 16 000 per month. Let's join the Sanctity of Human Life day of prayer this Sunday January 22, 2012. (http://www.sohls.org/)

David spoke of the wonder of God's work while being formed in his mother's womb (Psalm 139). John the Baptist lept in the womb of Elizabeth (Luke 1:41). And Mary celebrated the Messiah conceived within her by the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:46-56).

Human life, conceived by a miracle of God, is something to be celebrated and protected. A mother's love and heart are to be honored and respected. And God our Creator is to be worshiped and praised as the Giver of Life. Trust that the church in Namibia will celebrate and champion the protection of human life as given by God—and to acknowledge and support those women God has chosen to give nurture and birth to the children he has given.

Pohamba: Let us join hands in 2012

President Hifikepunye Pohamba in his 2012 New Year’s message appealed to all Namibians to join hands to confront developmental challenges facing the nation this year. Namibians should embrace all that is good about the nation and to reject the evils of crime, corruption and violence.

The Head of State placed special emphasis on violence directed at women, children and the elderly. “Let us work together to promote national reconciliation and the values of honesty, hard work, tolerance and patriotism. Namibia is my country. Namibia is your country,” he said.

Pohamba further urged Namibians to continue making positive contributions to local development. Pohamba appealed to all citizens to draw inspiration from enduring values in all they do and to look forward, in unity of action and purpose, for a better future for their people and country in 2012.

Pray that our leaders and nation will find wisdom and unity to address the challenges of 2012 at the feet of God.
Trust that we will find inspiration and enduring values in the Bible.
Let us trust God for leaders who will set an example in 2012, who will reject the evil and embrace the good.
Ask God for His Holy Spirit to lead us to His glory in 2012.

A large group of men and women attended the monthly ecumenical prayer meeting organized by the Women World Day of Prayer Action Group and the Council of Churches in Namibia. This photo was taken yesterday as they meet on the first Sunday.

Praise God for this prayer action. Please intercede for men and women in Namibia to stand in the gap for the nation.

Ask the Holy Spirit to raise up prayer warriors that will carry the nation in prayer at all hours.
Pray for a hunger for the Word.
Pray for men and women who follow in the footsteps of our Lord Jesus Christ.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Ephesians 6:18

Prayer focus on Education

POLITICAL and educational experts on education are meeting in Windhoek at a five-day national conference with more than 1 000 participants. Education is in a crisis. There are currently 600 000 students in Namibia. A worrying trend is a high dropout rate among boys and that the national average in mathematics and English is below 50 per cent.

President Hifikepunye Pohamba said “As a nation we must join each other’s hands to find the most effective manner of overcoming the challenges within Namibia’s education sector."

The single most critical issue that could destroy the Namibian education system is the poor discipline and work ethics of teachers, which results in many pupils being short-changed by about 40 to 50 days of learning per year.

Please intercede for this critical situation. Call upon God for -

Wisdom for the experts, that they find urgent practical answers to the challenges that education faces.
The Minister of Education Abraham Iyambo to guide the Namibian education system out of this crisis.
All regions where the majority of pupils are performing below basic standard.
The Oshana and Omusati regions which showed a decrease in school enrollment.
Against the unacceptable lack of discipline and work ethics of teachers.
A return to biblical based education and practices in Namibia. This is the foundation on which the present leaders of Namibia were raise and educated should return to it as soon as possible.

Pray for the nation to join each other’s hands to pray and find the most effective manner of overcoming the challenges within Namibia’s education sector. Pray as the Holy Spirit guides.

It is winter time in Namibia. In a country that normally enjoys very hot conditions, the cold of winter has a serious impact. Please intercede for the many poor in Namibia who have to walk to school and work early in the morning. Pray that they will have food for energy and warm blankets to cover them at night.

Ask God for wisdom for the government, the church and business to take hands, to address the challenges before us and make Namibia a better place for all.

However, there should be no poor among you,
for in the land the LORD your God is giving you

TAXI STRIKE HITS WINDHOEK

Taxis are seriously part of life in Namibia. For some a source of irritation because the drivers do not always observe traffic rules, for most the only way to get to work and back home.

Many taxi owners and drives took part in an illegal taxi strike yesterday. Strikers were adamant that a strike could help them solve the issue of high fines for traffic violations.

The general mood among the strikers was that fines must be reduced, or thousands of commuters will be left without transport.

Please pray for the issues at hand to be solved peacefully.
For taxi drivers to drive responsibly.
For "others" on the road to be understanding.
For all road-users to be patient with one another.
To be the first to give way.

WORKING TOGETHER IN 2011

President Hifikepunye Pohamba asked Namibians in his New Year Message to focus on the future and seize opportunities 2011 may bring. He called on Namibians to commit themselves to work harder and help the economy for the common welfare of all.

President Pohamba spoke against the disturbing trend of violence against women, children and elderly. "This brutal crime against the poorest members of society must be strongly rejected," the president said. He has called on Namibians to stand together against this kind and other crimes. They have no place in the Namibian society, he said.

"Our country is governed on the basis of law and order and crime, corruption and dishonesty must be eradicated," President Pohamba said. He also made an appeal on the youth not to participate in alcohol abuse, irresponsible sexual behaviour and criminal activities.

"We will continue to promote the welfare of elderly, women, children and people with disabilities suffer," he said in his New Year message.

Please pray:

Against violence on helpless women, children and the exploitation of the poor.

Against crime, corruption and dishonesty

For enforcement agencies to operate effectively.

That Namibians will work and promote the welfare of all citizens, especially the poor in 2011 and for God's grace and blessing on Namibia!

THE LORD IS MY BANNER

Moses built an altar and called it The LORD is my Banner. Exodus 17:15

A banner is a flag or other piece of cloth bearing a message. It serves as an identification of a group of people or an area of land. It also indicates authority. When a flag is raised, it shows someone has authority in that area. The photo above shows the flag of Namibia, one of the symbols of our constitution.

A banner can also be displayed as a symbol of principles or values. God's setting up a banner over the earth which imports his presence and protection and aid extended to his people. The Bible calls on us to raise a banner in the Name of God, to show that we submit to His authority and the principles found in His Word. His children also know that He holds the future and put their trust in Him.

God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you. So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? Hebrews 13:5-6

This is our dream for Namibia in 2011, that "The Lord is my Banner" indicates our allegiance -

I pledge allegiance to the Lamb
With all my strength, with all I am.
I will seek to honor His commands
I pledge allegiance to the Lamb.

Let us build an altar of prayer in Namibia in 2011 and call it The LORD is my Banner.

We will shout for joy when you are victorious and will lift up our banners in the name of our God. May the LORD grant all your requests. Psalm 20:5

PRAY FOR PERSECUTED CHURCH

Namibia joins the world as we pray for Christians throughout the world who are persecuted for their faith. The International Day of Prayer (IDOP) helps us to specifically focus our prayers on Christians who suffer because of their faith.

We can pray for our brothers and sisters in need.
We can pray for our brother who fears for his life because his country has anti-conversion laws that restrict freedom of religion.
We can pray for our sister whose husband is imprisoned because of their ministry.
We pray for those in need of God’s divine deliverance and protection.

LIGHT A CANDLE FOR HEALING OF NAMIBIA

President Hifikepunye Pohamba has called on all leaders to work together in educating society against social evils such as violence against women and children, alcohol and drug abuse and to raise awareness about the dangers of speeding and reckless driving which cause of most road accidents on Namibian roads.

President Pohamba launched the “Light a candle for the healing of Namibia". This initiative will focus on 16 days of prayer (25th November to 10th December 2010) for the healing of the nation.

Trust God for a breakthrough in the healing of Namibia. Trust that churches and believers will take hands in prayer, believe God for His grace and healing and asking Him, what can I do to bring healing in all my relationships, in my church and in my community?

EXPERIENCING THE FATHER'S EMBRACE

From Wednesday to Friday about 50 believers will attend the Experiencing the Father's Embrace Event here in Windhoek. Jack Frost who developed this course wrote:

“I believe with all my heart that the message of Father's love is one of the most important messages to be shared in today's world. It is central to one's relationship with God. It is central to one's relationship with others. And it has the power to unlock healing and restoration. The message is a simple one, and yet to walk in the day-to-day experience of Father's unconditional love and acceptance is something few people truly know.”

You are invited to spend this time with us on your knees. When the heart of a leader, a father or mother can be healed, an entire family, church, community or even a nation can be healed and brought into relationship with God as a loving Father. Please trust God for the healing of those who will sit at His feet during this time. Pray that we will send our whole sons and daughters of God to bring healing and restoration where every they go.

DEMOCRACY TRIUMPHS

Legal experts and political analysts have commended the Supreme Court judgment on the 2009 election case as good for constitutional democracy in Namibia.

The Supreme Court ruling referred back to the High Court the court challenge of the 2009 Presidential and National Assembly election results by opposition parties. In their ruling, the judges found that the High Court was wrong to strike from the court roll the opposition parties’ challenge of the election results on the basis that their application was late. Read full report in http://www.newera.com.na This case will take months to be heard and the High Court ruling might only come in 2012.

Praise God for the example set for Africa by the Namibian Supreme Court. The Namibian Constitution give recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is indispensable for freedom, justice and peace.

Pray that the President, the government, the court and the political parties will continue to honor freedom, justice and work for peace in Namibia. May God bless all our peoples!

SADC MEETS IN NAMIBIA

Namibian President, Hifikepunye Pohamba is expected to assume the chair of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) when Namibia hosts the 30th Ordinary SADC Heads of State and Government Summit on August 16 and 17 in Windhoek.

The SADC common agenda includes the promotion of sustainable and equitable economic growth and socio-economic development that will ensure poverty alleviation with the ultimate objective of its eradication; promotion of common political values, systems and other shared values which are transmitted through institutions which are democratic, legitimate and effective and the consolidation and maintenance of democracy, peace and security.

Please pray for the heads of state as they discus the SADC agenda. Pray that they will seek God’s will so that God can also bless our region.

NAMIBIA HAS A SEVERE SKILLS DEFICIT

Two labour experts this week painted a startling picture about the state of Namibia’s labour market, saying that most Namibians are unemployable.

The Global Competitiveness Index Report of 2009, said nearly 25 000 youth leave high school every year, but only 8 000 of those would gain formal employment, while a few others would go for further studies.

There are no jobs anymore to give to high school leavers, let alone those graduating from higher education training with qualifications that are not competitive. “Namibia has a severe skills deficit to the point of anorexia, we do not have the skills to sustain let alone grow,”

Both experts said the problem lies with the basic education sector. The total number of employed people in Namibia declined from 401 203 in 1997 to 385 329 in 2004 and further to 331 444 in 2008, according to the Government labour force survey in the subsequent years.

Add the annual figure of high school leavers, this becomes a worrying pattern. They called for political will, as well as for the labour movement to re-evaluate its role.

Cry out for wisdom and that the newly appointed Minister of Education Minister for Education Abraham Iyambo (left in the photo) will tackle this serious problem. PRAYER FOR THE POOR

It is winter in Namibia.
Let us remember the poor, the cold and the hungry:

Dear Lord,

We lift up to you the poor and the marginalized. We know that these are your cherished ones, that you are a God whose heart cries out for justice, that you are a God who longs to feed the hungry. We ask simply, Lord, that you give us your heart.

Fill us Lord with your compassion, give us your eyes to see, give us boldness and selflessness and wisdom, so that we too might cry out for justice and feed the hungry, so that your light might shine throughout the earth.

Lord, we especially lift up the children among us who are poor and marginalized, finding themselves in circumstances they did not choose and helpless to change. We lift up AIDS orphans, children of war, children suffering abuse and neglect, children smitten with malnutrition and disease, lacking education, housing or the most basic of life’s necessities. Might they somehow come to know the love of their Creator, who knows each hair on their head and collects their tears.

Lord, you know every wretched tale. Every overwhelming statistic, you know personally, one by one. Thank you that one day you will make all things right through your Son, Jesus Christ.

Until that day, let us be tireless in doing what is good and what is right unto the least of these, knowing the Father’s love for them.

PROCESS BEFORE EXPORT

Namibia wants foreign mining companies to start processing minerals before exporting them to create jobs and enable the government to raise more revenue through export tax, Prime Minister Nahas Angula has said.

Namibia is one of the world’s largest diamond producers and also has minerals such as uranium, while foreign firms are also exploring for gold, lead, zinc and iron ore. “[The] government is not in favour of the export of Namibian minerals without adding value to them,” Angula said last week at Rio Tinto meeting.

Namibia needs more revenue to develop our country and it's people. One way is to ensure foreign mines start to add value to minerals in Namibia and award the contracts to Namibians.

WORLD REFUGEE SUNDAY, 27 JUNE 2010

Did you know that there are currently 26 million displaced persons in at least 52 countries as a result of conflict?

Refugee Sunday is a unique opportunity to pray and support the refugees and to raise awareness for the situation of refugees and internally displaced peoples around the world.

Refugees are the people forced to flee their country because they have been persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership of a particular social group.

In Namibia Osire is a refugee camp in central Namibia, situated 200 km north of the capital Windhoek on the main road C30 from Gobabis to Otjiwarongo. Established in 1992 the refugee population of Osire stood at 6.500 in 2010 after having reached a peak of 20.000 in 1998. The majority of the refugees came from Angola, and a size-able portion from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Let us intercede for more than 26 million people in the world, who have no place to call home. Persecution and terror have forced these refugees and internally displaced persons to flee, leaving everything behind. Put yourself in their shoes. They have lost family members, friends, possessions and the familiar places of their homeland.

WATER FOR THE POOR

The Namibian reports government moves closer to subsidizing water for the poor. Although thousands of water points have been set up in rural areas, many households can not afford to pay for the water.

According to statistics Namibia have more than 84 000 households regarded as poor with the highest number of poor households is in the Kavango and Ohangwena regions. Subsidizing the water could cost the taxpayer up to N$28,7 million a year. Successful implementation requires a complicated and costly system.

Let us not forget the poor in our prayers. Pray for the authorities for wisdom to take up their responsibility to also look after the poor. Pray for those who have, to share with those who are in need. Each time you open your tap, do it with a grateful heart and a prayer that we, who can fill our cups, will also share a cup of water with those who are thirsty.

I tell you the truth, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to Christ will certainly not lose his reward. Mark 9:41

GOD ON THE MOVE IN LUDERITZ

The hazy Atlantic-coast town of Luderitz has immense appeal for its barren beauty and solitude. It's well off the beaten track; you have to really want to go here - it's a one way road to the town. Many charming and fine buildings reveal its colonial history as the first German settlement in what was then South West Africa.

Like in all towns in Namibia, there are people who love the Lord and participated in the Global Day of Prayer. Pastor Mishael Diabuna writes from Luderitz:

I greet you in the wonderful name of our Lord Jesus Christ, really I cannot be able to explain everything, it was awesome experience which I never see in my Christian life. We worked together in unity like never before and the power of God was present as we were in worship. Many people were touched by God and healing were taking place, everybody wish to pray together like that forever.

Read Joel 2:15-17. To repent as a people we must come before God together. He wants to encounter us as a people. That is why He is summoning us to break normal routines in order to assemble before Him in gatherings large and small.

It's a time to interrupt daily habits of life, fasting from our normal diet, even moving from familiar ways of worship to assemble in special ways. Why this urgency? Because something great is at stake for God's glory. Let's allow our hearts to be grieved by what we, as God's people, have done to bring shame upon His name. To the watching world, it can appear as if we have no God.

Consider what brings sorrow to the heart of God, and pray that He will transform us to bring Him the glory He deserves.

On Saturday 1 May a group of us accented the highest point in Namibia, the summit of the Fire Mountain (Brandberg) and claimed Namibia for God.

Praise God and pray for each faithful servant of God who proclaims the gospel in Namibia. Ask that He will provide in their spiritual and physical needs. Pray that they will trust God their Father and be true to His calling. Just intercede for them now, that they will be encouraged by the Living God and experience His presence.

Despite many challenges the country still faces, Pres. Hifikepunye Pohamba said in the State of the Nation address, he is proud because Namibia is on the right path and is an example of democracy, peace, stability and good governance on the African continent.

He called on Namibians to maintain unity, peace and stability, to be tolerant and have mutual respect and pursue national reconciliation. He also asked the people to contribute to ongoing nation-building efforts, holding on to the ethics of hard work, honesty, transparency and patriotic devotion.

"Our country will not by anyone else developed and built not just by ourselves," the president said. "Let us embrace each other, whatever our status in society, racial or ethnic origin, religion or gender. Let us strive for the noble ideals for which so many of our brave fellow Namibians have sacrificed their lives. Let us devote ourselves anew to our common dream and vision of Namibia as prosperous nation with sufficient opportunities for our children and our youth, so that they can realize their full potential," Pres . Pohamba said.

FEET ON LEVEL GROUND

David Owuor, a Nairobi-based ‘prophet’, claims in a video posted on youtube.com that God told him an earthquake would hit Namibia if local churches do not repent and stop several acts they are currently involved in. He called on Namibian churches and pastors to repent from corruption, gospel of prosperity and the love of money, clean up the church from sexual sin, avoid false prophets and false apostles and the decay that has consumed the church.

A light tremor was measured in northern Namibia in the Oshikoto Region late Sunday 11 April afternoon.

Please pray for the Church in Namibia. Pray that all spiritual leaders will live an examined life. Ask God to show us if there are things that we need to repent. (Ps 51) Pray for the preparations for Global Day of Prayer on 23 May 2010 which offers an opportunity of the churches to unite in prayer and repentance before God.(2 Chron 7:14)

CENTURY OF COOPERATION

President Jacob Zuma of South Africa, King Mswati III of the Kingdom of Swaziland, Lieutenant General Seretse Khama Ian Khama the president of Botswana, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho, Mr. Phakalitha Mosisili along with the President of Namibia gathered in the Namibian capital, Windhoek, to celebrate the first 100 years of cooperation of the Southern African Customs Union.The main purpose of the meeting was to provide strategic and political direction of the customs union.

Please pray for the economic integration of all member countries of the Southern African Development Community to benefit the region in the future.

STORM CREATES HAVOC

When it comes to rain, Namibia seems to have the south with too little and the north with too much. In the North rains and the Okavango River, which over night at 8, 67 meter reached its highest level in 41 years yearly causes havoc. Just look at these rainfall figures of the past 24 hours at various towns in the north: Oshakati 77, 8 mm, Odibo 50, 0 mm, Eenhana 38, 5 mm, Ulupumbu 36, 2 mm, Ekamba 32, 4 mm, Tsandi 28, 4 mm.

Please pray for these poor people whose lives are being disrupted as they are pushed out of their homes to several tent camps and children who can not go to school. In the Caprivi region there are now 10 500 people in 19 temporary emergency camps.

Intercede for the local authorities and the Red Cross for wisdom to assist those in need. Pray for family lives to be restored. Trust God for more permanent solutions for the flood problem. Pray that people will come forward to be a blessing to the flood victims.

HEAVY DRINKING A CONCERN

It is critical to acknowledge that Namibia has a serious problem with heavy alcohol consumption, says the Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services, Petrina Haingura, who was speaking at an alcohol stakeholders meeting in the capital last week.

She said reducing the level of social and health damage, which results from alcohol abuse, requires preparation, planning and cooperation by all stakeholders. She further said alcohol abuse is associated with a variety of problems in society such as drinking and driving, the risk of HIV infection due to unprotected sex, poverty and unemployment to mention a few.

Haingura said the “devastating effects” of excessive alcohol consumption prompted her ministry to establish the Coalition on Responsible Drinking (CORD), which she said consists of different stakeholders across the country. The aim of the coalition, said Haingura, is to effect change in attitudes and behaviour of people to abstain from alcohol consumption or to drink responsibly.

Please pray against alcohol abuse and the effects of it on the Namibian society. Trust God for a positive impact of the Coalition on Responsible Drinking. Pray for the Namibia Blue Cross awareness campaigns in schools and for the effectiveness of all other substance abuse educative and preventative programs in the nation.

WHY PRAY?

Prayer is not man's idea. It is God's idea. The invitation to pray comes from Him. It is He who calls us to stand before His throne night and day, to give Him no rest, reminding Him of His promises (Isa 62:6-7; Heb 4:16; Matt 7:7-8; 1 Thess 5:17)

If God calls us to pray, it is because He wants to help us, to answer us. For this reason He gave us His Word with all the promises that we can use to 'appeal' to Him for help. Remember, they are His promises. He made them. He wants to answer them. Let us then pray them boldly, in faith, not doubting, expectantly, night and day.

Let us ask for abundance and not only to survive. And I am not referring to financial abundance in the first place. Let us pray for our churches, communities, our country Namibia and the world.

God says: Come, boldly, with faith, faithfully, selflessly, without selfishness, with hope and certainty, knowing that I am almighty. Come and speak to Me.

Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16

GDOP 2010 NAMIBIA

The vision of Africa inviting the world to pray was planted ten years ago. Last year millions of believers from all 220 nations of the world came together in large stadiums, open fields, market squares, churches and other public venues to pray.

In 2010 Christians all over the world are again invited to take hands on Pentecost Sunday and celebrate ten years of Global Day of Prayer. Many Churches in Namibia, prayer networks, Christian organizations and prayer leaders support this initiative and in 2009 more that 40 towns participated in the day of prayer.

Two key verse for Global Day of Prayer initiative are -

"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land" 2 Chron.7:14

"For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea. " Hab.2:14

Here in Namibia it is our dream to unite believers from Government, Business and the Church in prayer and in faith action, to join hands and address the needs of our people, partnering to reach the goals of Vision 2030 of prosperity, harmony, peace and stability in Namibia.

CASE THROWN OUT

The challenge by nine political parties that emerged as the losers from the elections of November 27 and 28 last year has failed on technical grounds. In two judgments delivered by Judge President Petrus Damaseb and Judge Collins Parker, the judges agreed that the parties' election applications against both the presidential and the National Assembly election had to be struck from the court roll because both applications were filed late in terms of the court rules and the Electoral Act.

The court ordered that the parties have to bear the legal costs of the Electoral Commission of Namibia and Swapo in the case. Please visit The Namibian for details of the verdict.

The verdict stunned opposition members but gave the ruling party reasons to celebrate:

Pray that all involved in this case will put Namibia and our democracy first.
Intercede that all involved will do thorough self-examination and choose to do what is right in the eyes of the Lord and continue to do what is best for Namibia and her people.

FREEDOM, JUSTICE AND PEACE

On March 1 and 2 the nine opposition parties will have the opportunity to tell the High Court what proof they have to challenge the results of both the presidential and the National Assembly elections of 2009. In the mean time I have been told that there is a very good working relationship between all parties involved in the court case. Praise God!

President Pohamba assured the world that Namibia values the rule of law and an independent judiciary and that the judgment in the pending case would be taken seriously by Government. Both Pohamba and the Speaker of Parliament, Theo-Ben Gurirab, said that the High Court ruling would be accepted.

Praise God that Namibia has since Independence 20 years ago put all these democratic systems in place, among them an independent judiciary.

Praise God for a government who submits to our constitution which gives recognition that the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace.

Let us trust God that the way this case will be debated, judgment delivered and the way all will accept the outcome, will speak to Africa and the world.

Let us continue to believe that God has called Namibia to be an example of His way of doing Kingdom Business! Let us also pray that Namibians will realize that the real and true foundation of freedom, justice and peace is found in a daily relationship with God, through Jesus Christ and in the power of the Holy Spirit.

2010 A "PROMISING YEAR"

Bank of Namibia (BoN) Governor Tom Alweendo believes 2010 will be a “promising year” in which the economy of Namibia is projected to grow by “at least 4,2 per cent”. The central bank chief said there were “strong signs” of recovery everywhere and that it looks as if the global recession will not be a prolonged one.

Estimations are that the Namibian economy shrunk by one per cent last year, he said. “2010 should be a good year for all of us,” the Governor said though. The BoN’s growth projections for this year see the Namibian economy outperforming the world economy. The International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) has forecasted world economic growth of 4,0 per cent for 2010. Alweedo expects a recovery in tourism, construction, diamond mining and strong growth in the uranium mining sector.

INDEPENDENCE WITH DEPENDENCE

Namibians will celebrate their independence on March 21. Prime Minister Nahas Angula launched the 20th independence anniversary logo under the theme: “A Visionary Nation on the Move Towards 2030”. The logo, Angula said, as designed and manufactured, represents national unity in diversity, a vibrant nation forging ahead to achieve its national goals as contained in the five-year National Development Plan as well as Vision 2030. “The long and glorious journey of Namibia’s nationhood will continue to be told to generation upon generation. This year, Namibia will turn 20 years since our birth as a nation on March 21, 1990, when the flag of an independent Namibian nation was hoisted for the first time.”

Pray that we will celebrate our independence with dependence on God. Pray for leaders in Government, Business and Church to -

MERGON BREAKFAST

MASS MEASLES VACCINATION DRIVE

The Ministry of Health and Social Services will next week embark on a mass vaccination campaign against measles in the Opuwo Health District of the Kunene Region. The targets for the campaign are all the residents of the Opuwo Health District except pregnant mothers and children under the age of six months. The population of the health district is about 45 000.

The week-long campaign, which starts next Tuesday, ending on February 15, comes in the wake of a prolonged measles outbreak in the Kunene Region. Since the first case was reported on September 19 last year, the number of cases had risen to 1 253 by Monday this week. The disease has killed 15 people while 12 others are admitted at the Isolation Treatment Centre at the Opuwo District Hospital. Minister, Dr Richard Nchabi Kamwi, launched the campaign yesterday and said: “This mass vaccination is required because we have come to realize that people in Opuwo have little or no protection against measles.”

Pray that the outbreak of measles will be stopped and this vaccination campaign will be successful. That all the people will receive the necessary protection. For those who suffer now to be healed and for life in the Opuwo Health District to return to normal.

Good rains have been measured in many parts of the country:

Otjiwarongo between 9 & 20 mm;

Otjinene 12 mm;
Mariental 12,4 mm;
Katutura 14,2 mm;
Erundu 16,9 mm;
Goedemoed 17 mm;
Karibib 28 mm;
Ruacana 40 mm;
Helmeringhausen 43 mm;
Windhoek 45 mm over two days;
Mata-Mata road 100 mm.

Light rains were also measured in Rundu, Grootfontein, Buitepos, Gobabis, Keetmanshoop, Opuwo en Omaruru.

The Hardap dam is now at 57% of its capacity and the Okavango rivier is already flowing way above normal at 6,34 meter.

OUTCOME OF ELECTIONS DISPUTED

Nine Namibian political parties dispute the outcome of the November 2009 elections and have asked the High Court to declare the National Assembly election held on November 27 and 28 null and void. Apart from the nullification of the results, the parties have also asked the court to order a recount of all votes cast in Windhoek.

Law experts say submitting evidence to respondents is crucial, as they would be required to base their opposing affidavits on such “evidence”. Experts further say that any nullification of the election results would be based on “substantial evidence” pointing to irregularities that might have cost parties parliamentary seats or that have robbed their presidential candidates an opportunity to go to State House.

The case will be heard on February 5 and the next Government is due to be sworn in around March 21.

POHAMBA SAYS: "STOP IT!”

In his New Year message for 2010, His Excellency Hifikepunye Pohamba, President of the Republic of Namibia addressed the serious problem of alcohol abuse in Namibia:

He made a call on the nation to confront the problem of alcohol abuse meaningfully in our society: “I wish to call upon parents to lead by example and encourage our children to refrain from alcohol abuse. The danger signs are there for everyone to see. The problem of alcohol and drug abuse continues to erode our social fabric. Many of our citizens have been enslaved by alcohol, resulting in loss of employment, neglect of families, poor health and destruction of family lives through violence.The negative consequences of alcohol abuse on our society are just too many to mention.

He said: May I call upon our churches and civil society organizations to intensify campaigns to promote sobriety as a more preferable lifestyle. Let our nation make a clean start in the New Year and break the chains of alcohol abuse in our communities.”

Let pray against alcohol abuse in Namibia. Let's trust that our people will turn to God!

POHAMBA SAYS: “HELLO 2010”

In his New Year message for 2010 by His Excellency Hifikepunye Pohamba, President of the Republic of Namibia highlighted the following issues for Namibia -

A call for greater efficiency, effectiveness and speed on the part of all officials entrusted with the implementation of Government policies and programs.
A call on all fellow Namibians to contribute in the task of nation building, to build Namibia and make our country prosperous by working together in unity of purpose and action to carry our country forward towards the achievement of our national development objectives, documented in Vision 2030. The president said: “I believe that with unity, no challenge will be too great and no obstacle will be insurmountable. We can achieve our goals if we join hands and work together as members of one team.”
A call upon all Namibian people to stand together in unity, irrespective of their race, gender, political affiliation, social status or religion, to make Namibia a winning nation, a place where all our people can enjoy the fruits of independence and realize their fullest potential.
A call to work together for the social and economic well-being of our country and all her people, by addressing the existing inequities in the distribution of the country’s wealth. It is a matter of concern that Namibia has the unenviable distinction, as a country with the most skewed income distribution in the world.
A call to place increased focus on narrowing the gap between the rich and poor members of our society, as a means of creating social justice in our society. A call upon the private sector to join in finding practical, durable and sustainable solutions to this challenge.

INTERCEDE DAILY FOR GOVERNMENT

On Friday the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) declared Swapo as victorious in the 2009 Elections. Eight political parties do not accept the results of the National Assembly and presidential elections and will take the ECN to court for allegedly contravening the election law.

The results indicated that the ruling Swapo Party won the parliamentary election with 75,27 per cent or 602 580 votes. The opposition parties jointly collected 208 543 votes, with the RDP getting the highest number of votes, namely 90 556 votes or 11,31 per cent. RDP presidential candidate Hidipo Hamutenya won 88 640 votes or 11,08 per cent of the vote.

Pray that they would rely upon prayer and the Word of God as the source of their daily strength, wisdom and courage.

ELECTIONS FREE AND FAIR!

The observer mission of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) has declared Namibia’s national and presidential elections free and fair, its leader, Mozambican Diplomatic Affairs Minister Francisco Madeira, said yesterday. Generally, the pre-election phase was characterised by a peaceful, tolerant and yet enthusiastic political atmosphere, the SADC mission observed.

Although there were some incidents of violence reported in some parts of the country, the law enforcement agencies were able to deal with them effectively. “These acts of violence were roundly condemned by all the political leaders in the country,” Madeira said.

The SADC mission applauds the Namibian people for the manner in which they expressed their will and conducted themselves during the entire electoral process, thus contributing to the consolidation of democracy and political stability in Namibia, the SADC region and the African continent,” Madeira added.

We also asked for prayers that whatever is hampering the publication of the results will resolved and called on all members of political parties and their leaders to remain calm and seek biblical ways to solve the issues that are causing "anxiety, frustration and confusion"(as reported by a local newspaper).

This call for prayers has caused some reaction from some of you. It was pointed out that the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) is going out of their way to verify results at “constituency verification centres” before being forwarded to the ECN’s central election results centre in Windhoek. We can choose how we want to react to this delay. Let's come with an expectation that the official results will be correct and that everyone "will serve wholeheartedly as if they were serving the Lord, not men!" Eph 6:6:7

Dear Brothers and Sisters, What a sad way to describe the state of the country this morning, "dark clouds of anxiety, frustration and confusion hung over most parts of Namibia." After two days of peaceful and calm elections, it seems as if the Electoral Commission of Namibia is failing in their role to publish official results.

Please make this an urgent prayer request. Pray that the truth will triumph over the lie and that assumptions will be validated before accepted as facts. Pray that whatever is hampering the publication of the results will resolved and that credibility in the ECN and the results will be restored. Pray that believers will act in a God-like manner and turn to the Light to shed light on the situation. Pray that all members of political parties and their leaders will remain calm and seek biblical ways to solve the issues that are causing anxiety, frustration and confusion. Praise God for the Walvisbay Community Church who worked hard to make their church available for this week-end's Global Leadership Summit 2009. About 400 leaders from all over Namibia gathered and were encouraged, motivated and challenged. What a great way to end the year. What a great way to be challenged for 2010. Like the late Dr Bill Bright said: This is no time for business as usual.

Bill Hybels’ first session, Leading in a New Reality, reminded us that we need to slow down and gently listen to God, even in the midst of the chaos of the world around us.
Jessica Jackley’s insight on the whole idea of co-creation totally were exciting when thinking about new ideas and possibilities that are out there. It just starts be taking one, small step. I was challenged by the difference that a young lady can make in the world!
Dave Gibbons shared his challenging thoughts and insights on creating a Third Culture, a culture of adaptation. Namibia needs to apply his ideas!
Andrew Rugsira challenged the group to think differently about the continent of Africa and to not just look through the lens of compassion (Aid), but to also see the opportunity that is in the people (and Trade) on our continent.
Wess Stafford shared an amazing story about compassion and forgiveness.
Tim Keller’s session, Leading People to the Prodigal God, was a touching reminder to remember the true heart of the Gospel.
Harvey Carey touch our hearts and convinced us that we need to step out and do something!

The fact that we are in a battle is inescapable. The question is, what battle would you rather be in, and who would you rather be in it with? For myself, fighting for the local church and ensuring it achieves its redemptive potential with other Christ-following brothers and sisters is the highest marching order I could ever receive.

There are around 29 000 visually impaired Namibians.The Electoral Commission of Namibia introduced the Braille ballot template in the 2004 elections and have appointed a visually impaired person to train voters throughout the country. The Electoral Act of 1992 states that every individual Namibian has the right to cast their votes in secret, but those who cannot read Braille may still bring along a friend or a relative to help them cast their votes.

Let us pray for those who are visually impaired. Pray that God will strengthen them and that they will come to know Him who is the Light. Pray for family and friends to support the visually impaired and make life for them as comfortable as possible. Continue to pray for the Electoral Commission of Namibia as they prepare for Elections 2009.

HELPING HANDS OF THE PEACE CORPS

The Peace Corps Program started in 1990 with a request from the Government of the Republic of Namibia for Volunteers to teach in the secondary schools.

21 Peace Corps Volunteers have just completed their orientation of local languages, culture and society, and the proud history of Namibia and the Namibian people in Okahandja. Each of these volunteers has committed themselves to two years of service in Namibia. They will be assigned to the Caprivi, Hardhap, Kavango, Khomas, Omaheke, Kunene, Otjozondjupa, Oshana, Oshikoto and Omusati regions and live among the local Namibian population.

The volunteers will be placed in positions through various Namibian Organizations and work with their Namibian counterparts to help strengthen these organizations. They will also do life skills training and share HIV/AIDS information in innovative activities and community projects.

But that does not mean we cannot pray. Praise God that our connection with Him is never down and that He calls on us to always pray and not give up.

VALUES FROM THE HEART

A value is any deeply cherished principle, belief or conviction held by an individual or group of people. What people really value becomes apparent in observing their behaviour. We may say we believe in ‘good values’ – but do our everyday lives actually reflect Godly values such as honesty or perseverance?

At the heart of many of the problems facing our country and our continent is a gap between the positive values that we profess and our actions. HEARTLINES is a project that uses television, radio and print media to get the nation to talk, think about and act on these values.

No Christian perfectly practices or even understands all of God’s ways. But as believers in the Lord Jesus, we are on a journey with our Creator to discover the principles that make life work best. We trust that through study, prayer and by the power of the Holy Spirit, God’s values will become our own and that we will see our lives - and those around us - transformed.

In 2006, Heartlines launched its first 8 TV drama films in South Africa under the campaign "8 Weeks - 8 Values - One National Conversation". These films were launched this past Sunday in Namibia and will be screened by the NBC TV every Sunday for the next seven weeks at 13:00.

We are however getting weaker and slower now and it takes a while to get going. Against Crime And Violence

Recently we have also been the victim of crime. Let us unite in prayer against this evil in society:

Lord God, crime is on the increase within our city and our country. We ask that You will comfort and heal all the victims of crime.

We pray too that You will protect all people from the evil of crime and violence. We pray especially for the conversion of all criminals - remove all evil from their hearts, and fill them with your goodness and love, that they may cease their evil works and that our city and land be free from all the scourge of crime and violence.

We pray also for the grace to purge ourselves of all violence in our own thoughts and actions, in our family life, in our friendships and our relationships with others. Amen.

AN EVENING OF PRAYER

The Church in Namibia want to take up the very important role of intercession and work for a peaceful, free and fair election process. All prayer and church leaders in Windhoek are invited to an evening of prayer for the Elections 2009. A strategy for prayers for the elections and how intercessors and churches can participate will be shared.

The main focus of the evening will be to pray for these elections and the National Day of Prayer on 1 November. Believers will also have an opportunity to sign up for a prayer chain that will run through October.

NAMIBIAN TIME CHANGE

On Sunday, 6 September 2009, Namibian time changed from Winter time (UTC +1) back to Summer time (UTC +2). The time change took place at 02h00 (AM). For practical purposes, this means setting clocks forward 1 hour (ie. from 02h00 to 03h00).

At this time of "time" change it is always good to think about your life, your time and how you use it.

Remember you can not find more time. You also can not manage the time you have. All you can do is manage yourself. Choose the right things to work on at the right time and stay focused. Face up to the hard work of managing yourself and get the help and support you need to live the abundant life God created you to live.

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven. Ec 3:1

SWAPO ELECTORAL COLLEGE MEETS

This weekend the Swapo Electoral College, around 190 people, will meet in Windhoek to decide on the list of 72 Swapo Party members they want to submit as their representatives in the National Assembly, which will be elected during the November national elections.

Please seriously intercede for this important meeting of the Swapo Electoral College and the Swapo rally during the week-end. Trust that the Electoral College will ask and heard God's voice as they appoint the 72. Many of those on the list will govern the country for the next 5 years. Also continue to pray as all parties finalize their list of candidates for members of the National Assembly. Pray that godly men and women will be on the list of candidates of each party.

The Swapo Electoral College will vote for their candidates and a list will be drawn up. By Sunday President Hifikepunye Pohamba (photo) will announce the final list.

Here is some background information to the Swapo process. The Electoral College will be composed of:

All 83 members of the Central Committee (which include the top four)
17 Members of Parliament who are not in the Central Committee
Five delegates from each of the 13 regions (65 people)
Five delegates from the Swapo Party Elders’ CouncilTen delegates from the Swapo Party Women’s Council
Five delegates from the Swapo Party Youth League
Five delegates from the National Union of Namibian Workers (affiliated organisation)
The delegates will vote for 59 candidates.

These will be added to the 10 that President Hifikepunye Pohamba must appoint as well as Swapo Party vice president Hage Geingob, Secretary General Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana and her deputy Nangolo Mbumba, who are automatic selections. Depending on how the ranking is done, each of the 59 elected candidates could be pushed down by 13 places because of the automatic selections and Pohamba’s choices. Pohamba will announce his preferred 10 after the elections and is likely to go with people who are not generally regarded as heavyweights in Government or the ruling party.

DATES FOR NAMIBIAN ELECTIONS

The Namibian elections will take place on 27 and 28 November.

Pray for the Electoral Commission of Namibia as they organize the 2009 elections. Pray for effective planning and timely actions, so that all polling stations will have enough ballot papers, ink, boxes etc.

Supplementary Registration of voters will take place from 17 to 30 September. Trust God that registration will run smooth and that voter lists will be drawn up in an efficient manner.
The Electoral Commission is busy to recruit and train 3500 officers to help with the registration and elections. Trust the Lord for the right people and that this huge task will be finished on time. The Church in Namibia also wants to appoint godly people with strong character to man polling stations as observers. Pray for the whole process of appointing and training of these observers.
The final date to nominate candidates is 19 October. Continue to pray as all parties finalize their list of candidates for members of the National Assembly. Pray that godly men and women will be on the list of candidates of each party.
Wisdom and strategy to involve every Christian Church in Namibia in prayers for the Elections 2009 and the National Day of Prayer on 1 November 2009.

PRAY FOR AFRICA

This morning we found this Africa shaped stone on the beach. Africa should be shaped by God! Let's pray for this continent of which we are part of, this continent from where God called His Son.

So Joseph got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt,where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: "Out of Egypt I called my son." Matthew 2:14,15

Lets trust God to use us, his children in Namibia to help shape our country and this continent with our prayers and our actions, "and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace." Ephesians 6:15

Remember we serve the King of Kings and we are under His command. Do you obediently and joyfully yield to His authority?

Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. Christians in Namibia: Pray for an increase in fervency of our love for Jesus Christ our Savior, God our Father and the Holy Spirit our Helper. (Eph 2:4-5)
Leaders: Pray for all leaders in Namibia according to 1 Tim 2:1-2. Specifically pray for president, cabinet and members of parliament, and leaders of the regions.
Church: Pray for all Christian Churches in Namibia. Pray for growth (spiritually and in numbers), finances and protection from deception. (Eph 6:18)
Unity: Pray for unity in purpose amongst the Christian Churches in Namibia to address physical, mental & emotional, social and spiritual needs of the people of Namibia. Specifically pray Jesus’ prayer in John 17:20-26 as well as Eph 3:14 – 4:16.
Lost: Pray for those that do not know Jesus Christ as their Saviour in Namibia. Pray for the preparation and gathering of the harvest. Pray for those working in gathering the harvest. (1 Tim 2:3-6)

Pray for effective planning and timely actions, so that all polling stations will have enough ballot papers, ink, boxes etc.
Continue to pray as parties finalize their list of candidates for members of the National Assembly. Pray that godly men and women will be on the list of candidates of each party.
The members of the steering committee and Leaders of the Alliance of Church Leaders. Pray that members will bare criticism in a Christ-like manner. Trust God for health, wisdom, stamina to carry the work load.
Pray for the Chairperson Rev Dr Abisai Shejavali, Carola Engelbrecht and Rev Thijs van der Merwe who carries heavy workloads at this time.
Wisdom and strategy to involve every Christian Church in Namibia in prayers for the Elections 2009.
The gathering of prayer and church leaders on 17 September in Windhoek. That God will meet us and involve us is His plan for Namibia.
We have finalizing the strategy for a Day of National Prayer for the Elections on 1 November. This has been distributed by e-mail to church and prayer leaders all over the country. Please pray for them as they implement the strategy in their communities.
